DIMAPUR: Canara Bank, Kohima Branch, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, extended financial support to meritorious and underprivileged girl students of Dr. Neilhouzhii Kire Government Higher Secondary School (DNKGHSS), Seikhazou, Kohima, under the Canara Vidya Jyothi Scholarship Scheme.
Dr. Ambedkar Vidya Jyothi Scholarship, originally known as Canara Vidya Jyoti, supports meritorious and underprivileged SC/ST girl students studying in Classes 5 to 10. The scheme aims to prevent dropouts, promote academic excellence and advance gender equality. Canara Bank has been supporting girl students through this initiative over the years, and during the current year, CSR programmes have been undertaken across nine districts of Nagaland, with assistance amounting to approximately Rs. 2.4 lakh.
On August 15, Canara Bank, in collaboration with DNKGHSS, organised a felicitation programme for girl toppers from Classes 5 to 10, along with a career guidance session for students of Classes 9 to 12. The programme was chaired by Dr. Meno Thorie. Scholarship awardees were felicitated by Adani Thomas, branch manager, Canara Bank, Kohima, and Ruokuosieu Vizo, vice principal, DNKGHSS.
During the career guidance session, Tsuzo, assistant branch manager, spoke on opportunities in the banking and public sectors. Temsuwapang Nukshiba highlighted prospects in engineering and technical fields, while Dr. Meno Thorie guided students on stream selection after Class 10 and career opportunities across different streams.
The programme underscored the importance of supporting girl students through education, scholarships and career guidance, while encouraging them to pursue higher education and meaningful careers.
