
District level workshop on building capacities for taking forward “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” was held in Kohima on Wednesday.
The programme was organized by SDG coordination centre and department of Planning and Coordination.
According to DIPR report, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie while delivering key note address stated that SDGs were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
The SDGs were a collection of 17 global goals and associated 169 targets designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. The aim of SDGs is to “leave no one behind” and to “reach the furthest behind first”. He also highlighted the 17 goals to “No Poverty” including a vision to end poverty in all its forms.
District Planning Officer, Pudusul Luho said that Nagaland state was also engaged in the process of SDG integration and localization since 2018 with its Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) under Planning and Coordination department.
Adding that SDGs was a new policy to most of the departments, he encouraged everyone to look forward with coordination to understand the main concept of SDG and identify the challenges and its solutions.
During the workshop, SDG consultant from all the departments on localization and integration of SDGs and preparedness of Nagaland was highlighted.
The main objective of the workshop was to sensitise all the district level officials for taking forward SDGs and develop understanding of the SDGs.
Participants from all the 28 departments and the SDG consultants from the SDGCC attended the workshop.
