A six-day capacity building programme on “Augment of pig production and reproduction through scientific management” was successfully conducted from February 16 to 21, 2026 at the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (CVS&AH), CAU Imphal, Jalukie, Peren.
The training was organized by the Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics in collaboration with ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal, and supported by ICAR-Consortia Research Platform on Vaccines and Diagnostics (ICAR-CRPVD) under NEH component.
At the inaugural programme, a training manual was released by dean in-charge of the college, Dr. Samaresh Kumar Das, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jalukie, Albert Ezung, and Course Director Dr. Tukheswar Chutia.
The training programme featured a wide panel of experts and academicians. Resource persons included: Professor and Head, Dept. of VGO, Dr. A. Palanisammi, Principal Scientist, NIHSAD, Bhopal, Dr. G. Venkatesh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of VGO, Dr. Tukheswar Chutia, Professor and Head, Dept. of LPM, Dr. Zeshmarani Sarangthem, Sr. Scientist, NIHSAD, Bhopal, Dr. Fateh Singh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of VPB, Dr. Bhabesh Mili, Assistant Professor, Dept. of VPP, Dr. Sedeneinuo Suohu, Dept. of AGB, Dr. Ksh. Mahesh Singh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of VAN, Dr. Malsawmkima, Assistant Professor, Dept. of VPP, Dr. Amrit Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of VPA, Dr. Rabeya Begam, Assistant Professor, Dept. of VCC, Dr. Keneisezo Kuotsu, Assistant Professor, Dept. of LPM, Dr. T. Gyaneshori Devi, and Deputy Manager, SBI-RBO, Dimapur, Paotinngul Hangsing.
Altogether, 30 tribal pig farmers from Nagaland participated in the training. On successful completion, trainees were awarded certificates and training manuals, along with distribution of pig feed, vitamins, mineral mixtures, tonics, antiseptics, and other farm essentials.
Dr. Das encouraged farmers to adopt scientific practices to become potential pig producers, while ADC Albert Ezung highlighted the opportunities in commercial pig farming and expressed hope that the programme would equip farmers with knowledge, skills, and a platform to address common challenges.
The programme was designed to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, aiming to strengthen pig farming as a sustainable livelihood option in the state.
