Capt N Kengurüse Memorial Day commemorated at Nerhema

KOHIMA, JUN 28 (NPN): Spear Corps and Assam Rifles on Sunday commemorated the 27th Memorial Day of Captain N Kengurüse, MVC, at the Kengurüse War Memorial, Nerhema Pheza, in Kohima district, paying tribute to the Kargil War hero’s extraordinary courage, supreme sacrifice and unwavering devotion to duty.
Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Spear Corps, attended the programme as chief guest and laid a wreath at the memorial in honour of the gallant officer. The ceremony was also attended by Major General Harinder Singh Mavi, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), parents and family members of Captain N Kengurüse, senior military officers, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, local villagers and other dignitaries.
The commemorative programme began with wreath-laying ceremonies by military dignitaries, family members and representatives of the local community, followed by a prayer service and eulogy in memory of the Maha Vir Chakra awardee, whose heroic actions during the Kargil War continue to inspire generations of soldiers and citizens.
A documentary highlighting the life, military career and acts of exceptional bravery of Captain N Kengurüse was screened during the programme. The chief guest also felicitated Neisalie Kengurüse and his wife in recognition of their son’s distinguished service and supreme sacrifice for the nation.
A ceremonial march-past by Assam Rifles personnel, NCC cadets, ex-servicemen and pipe bands added solemnity to the occasion and reflected the enduring respect and gratitude for the fallen hero.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Girish Kalia said Captain N Kengurüse’s legacy of courage, sacrifice and selfless service would continue to inspire generations.
He urged young people to draw inspiration from the brave officer’s life, uphold the values of courage, patriotism and selfless service, and contribute meaningfully towards nation-building and national service.
The programme concluded with Spear Corps and Assam Rifles reaffirming their commitment to preserving the legacy of the nation’s bravehearts while strengthening their enduring bond with the people of Nagaland.
