
In commemoration of its platinum jubilee, Akhoya Students’ Union (ASU) organized three-day career guidance and spiritual orientation programme at CGYM, Sovima from April 26-28.
On the concluding day, Vishal, IPS probationer informed the students that career planning was a process of knowing one’s competency which involves self assessment so that the strength, weakness and interest of an individual was assessed.
He called upon the youth to list down career options that should match with their interest and skills before making the right choice.
Founder director, Justice for the Poor, Rev. R. Meren Jamir who also shared his experience on skill development, urged the youth to take active part in skill development. He also presented video clippings and demonstrated on his own tailoring and honey making products.
In the evening session, panel discussion on career possibilities and right choosing was held where panellists Limaakum Jamir, NPS, Dr. Maongkala Longchar, Assistant Professor, Sharon Longchari, NCS, Rongsenmenla, NCS, Er. Alemtoshi Imsong with Akum Jamir, advocate as moderator encouraged the young minds in choosing their career.
They also encouraged the students to take up event management, sound engineering, farming and outsourcing handloom and hand woven products as career options which are the demands of the day.
Panellists also advised the students that they should not joined government service for sake of getting salary but render their service to the people.
Later, the programme concluded with spiritual orientation session where Rev. Tiyong Kichu spoke on “fulfilling God’s purpose”.
Organizers further thanked Akhoya Fellowship Dimapur for sponsoring programme and also the resource persons, panellists, moderators and all the participants for their selfless contributions and participations. Altogether 100 students participated in the orientation programme.
