Catholics observe last supper at Kidima

DIMAPUR: St Francis Xavier Catholic Church observed the last supper with spiritual director, Oriental Theology College, Shillong (former Principal of St Joseph’s College, Jakhama) Reverend Father N. K. George as main celebrant at the Church premises on Thursday.
In a press release, the church informed that during the occasion, Father N. K. George in the homily said the last supper was also a priesthood day.
He exhorted the gathering that Jesus authorised His apostles which was empowered to priests.
The priests’ lives are not for prestige but for humble service to the people of God, he stated.
Fr N. K. George in the introductory note said the celebration of Maundy Thursday was originated from Latin word in which Jesus commanded his Apostles love.
He said Maundy Thursday was divided into five parts like the word of the Lord, washing of feet, Eucharist celebration, procession of the altar of repose and adoration.
Earlier, washing of 12 faithful feet signified Jesus himself washing his Apostles during the last supper programme. Enchanting Gloria followed by adoration were highlights of the liturgy celebration.
