CBCC condemns publication of draft rolls on Sunday

DIMAPUR: Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) has expressed dismay over the decision of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct the publication of the Draft Electoral Rolls 2026 under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) for all four Assembly Constituencies in Phek district on September 20, which fell on a Sunday.
In a statement, CBCC said the last minute announcement was “a clear indication of the conspiracy of the pro communal ECI to deceive the Christian community in the district.” It maintained that Sunday is a sacred day for Christians and described the move as “disheartening and a desecration of the Lord’s Day.”
The Council lamented that such communal tendencies have repeatedly surfaced in a secular country, and expressed disappointment that even in a Christian dominated state, political parties, electoral officers and bureaucrats chose to remain silent when the faith was being interfered with.
CBCC asserted that forcing the Christian community to act against its beliefs would only invite greater resistance to religious subjugation. “The Church of Jesus will not bow before any authority on earth and will not be coerced by any pressure,” it stated.
The Council vowed to strongly oppose any individual, political party, organisation, administration or government that undermines Christian faith and conspires against the Church. It reiterated that while the Church may be humiliated, “the Kingdom of God will not fail.”
