CEC inaugurates BLO supervisors’ training

DIMAPUR

The 13th batch of Booth Level Officer (BLO) supervisor training began at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi on Monday, with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Gyanesh Kumar, inaugurating the programme.
According to a press release from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, a total of 379 participants are attending the two-day capacity building programme—111 from Uttar Pradesh, 128 from Madhya Pradesh, 67 from Nagaland, 66 from Meghalaya, and 7 from Chandigarh.
Addressing the inaugural session, the CEC stressed that training programmes were vital for ensuring the conduct of electoral roll preparation and elections in accordance with the Representation of People Act 1950, 1951, and related rules. He said, “There can be nothing more transparent than law in any democracy,” adding that elections in India are held strictly by the rule of law.
The CEC highlighted the importance of familiarising BLOs and supervisors with the provisions of the first and second appeals under Section 24(a) and 24(b) of the RP Act, 1950. He further urged them to educate electors on these provisions during field-level verifications.
The release stated that during the last Special Summary Revision (SSR) exercise, no appeals were filed from Nagaland, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, or Uttar Pradesh.
The training includes hands-on sessions on voter registration procedures, form handling, IT tools, and mock polling using EVMs and VVPATs.
