CEDOK extends relief in Mon

DIMAPUR: In the aftermath of devastating natural disasters and tragic accidents that struck Mon district, the Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) has stepped forward with a mission of compassion and solidarity.
Demonstrating resilience and community support, CEDOK disbursed Rs. 8,50,000 to the families of 103 students whose homes were either destroyed or severely damaged, while also extending assistance to families who suffered the loss of loved ones.
In a press release, CEDOK informed that the relief initiative was made possible through the collective generosity of Catholic schools across Nagaland. Responding to an appeal by secretary of CEDOK, Rev. Fr. Dr. Jacob Charalel, students, parents, teachers and school managements mobilised resources wholeheartedly.
This act of solidarity highlighted the role of schools not only as centres of learning but also as incubators of civic responsibility and compassion. Catholic schools ensured that vulnerable families were not left alone in their darkest hours, embodying values of love, prayer and mutual support without discrimination.
CEDOK’s efforts were strengthened by collaboration with key administrative and civil society bodies.
The organisation expressed gratitude to DC Mon, Wennyei Konyak, Chang (EAC), Imlong Chaba, district administration of Mon, Konyak Union, All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA) Mon unit and the Konyak Students’ Union for their active involvement in ensuring relief reached affected families efficiently and respectfully.
On August 19, the CEDOK team visited homes of families who lost members during the July 19 landslide and offered prayers and support. Relief sessions were later organised at Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School and St. John Hr. Sec. School, where affected families received Rs. 15,000 each, while individual students were provided Rs. 9,000.
During the sessions, the DC Mon emphasised disaster preparedness and safety measures, urging residents to remain vigilant given the region’s vulnerability to natural calamities.
He also expressed gratitude to the Catholic Church for its consistent humanitarian response. The secretary of Konyak Union, Yongwan Konyak and ANPSA president L. Yajao Konyak also lauded CEDOK’s efforts.
Special appreciation was extended to SDB, principal of Don Bosco School, Mon, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Elow, and Pangnyei Konyak for their hospitality and active participation in the relief work. CEDOK further thanked all Catholic schools for their generous contributions.
