The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) organized the All Nagaland Catholic Schools Inter-School Athletic Meet and CEDOK Teachers Award 2025 on October 10 at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Bishop of Kohima, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, as the special guest. Joint executive officer, NSDMA, Dr. Johnny Ruangmei, and principal director, Department of School Education, Shashank Pratap Singh, attended the event as the special guest and guest of honour respectively.
Over 700 students from 33 Catholic schools across Nagaland participated in the athletic meet, competing under four categories: Junior and Senior, Boys and Girls. Events included 100m, 200m, and 400m races, relay races, sack race, obstacle race, long jump, high jump, shot put, arm wrestling, and the much-anticipated open bamboo climbing event. Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur and St. Andrew School, Thenyizumi emerged as the overall champions of the meet.
A unique highlight of the meet was the bamboo climbing competition, with 26 teams enthusiastically competing for the top. Officials from Dimapur Athletics, Naga Arm Benders, Postgraduate Students of NEISSR, and various clergy members assisted in officiating the events.
In his address, Shashank Pratap Singh commended CEDOK’s efforts in fostering holistic education and encouraged students to seize such opportunities for growth and excellence. Dr. Johnny Ruangmei highlighted the importance of sports in cultivating discipline, mental strength, and camaraderie. He called on the participants to honour not just the winners, but every athlete who demonstrated perseverance, team spirit, and enthusiasm.
During the event, the CEDOK Teachers Award 2025 was presented to six distinguished educators for their excellence and commitment in the field of education. The award, which includes a certificate, memento, and cash prize, was conferred upon: Sarita Gurung of St. John Hr. Sec. School, Tuensang, Adole Rhetso of St. Joseph Hr. Sec. School, Viswema, Ethel of Holy Child School, Burma Camp, Temjenyangla of Assisi Hr Sec, School, Khermahal, Khriezomenuo of St. Andrew School, Jotsoma and Asosü Dominic Pfokreni of St. Mary Cathedral Hr. Sec. School, Kohima.
Winners of the athletic meet were awarded certificates, medals, and mementoes, while all participants received certificates of participation.
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation and welcome address by principal, St. Joseph Hr. Sec. School Rev. Dr. George Rino. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Rev. Fr. Renthungo N. Odyuo.
