Census 2027 house listing underway across Nagaland

DIMAPUR: The first phase of Census 2027—House Listing Operation commenced across districts of Nagaland on July 1, 2026.
The exercise began with listing of Lok Bhavan, the official residence of Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav.
According to DIPR report, enumerators carried out door‑to‑door visits across the districts and sub‑divisions to collect information on buildings, housing conditions, household amenities and assets.
The exercise marks the foundation for the population enumeration phase of Census 2027, which will follow after completion of the house listing operations.
The House Listing Operations for Census 2027 in Nagaland began on July 1, 2026, and will continue until July 30, 2026.
This phase aims to gather data on housing conditions, available amenities, and household assets.
The second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled to begin in February 2027.
The Census 2027 is being conducted digitally, ensuring accurate and confidential data collection.
Over 6,000 personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, have been appointed from various government departments to conduct the exercise.
In addition, 17 principal census officers, 17 district census officers, 157 charge officers, six master trainers and 130 field trainers have been designated for Census 2027 in Nagaland.
During the House Listing Operations phase, enumerators and supervisors will visit every household to collect data on housing conditions, basic amenities, and household assets.
Households will answer 33 questions, with responses being entered directly into a mobile application.
A total of 1,606 villages will be covered under Census 2027.
The second phase, Population Enumeration, will begin in February 2027.
It will collect demographic, socio-cultural, and economic data, along with information on migration and fertility.
Meanwhile, the officials assured that all information collected during the census would remain strictly confidential and protected.
It therefore appealed to citizens, village and ward authorities, and civil society organisations to extend full cooperation to census officials to ensure the successful conduct of an accurate and inclusive Census of India 2027.
