District-level training programmes for Census of India 2027 commenced simultaneously in Wokha and Kiphire on April 20, aimed at equipping district and charge officers with the necessary knowledge and skills for the upcoming census operations.
In Wokha, the two-day district-level training programme for district and charge officers on Census 2027 commenced at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha, on April 20. The training aims to equip officers with the necessary knowledge and skills for the upcoming census operations.
According to DIPR report, the programme began with a briefing, welcome address and introductory session by Assistant Director, Census Operations Nagaland, Mhathung Rangthang. He delivered the first session on “Introduction to Census 2027” covering the role of census functionaries, legal provisions, fund management and publicity activities.
The second session was presented by Statistical Investigator Vaibhav Sharma, who introduced the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), explaining its modules, features, types of users and registration process. This was followed by Statistical Investigator Faujdar Singh Yadav, who provided both theory and demonstration on CMMS-HLO (House Listing and Housing Census Operation) management, HLBC (House Listing Block Creator), generation of appointment letters and ID cards, and layout map preparation.
The training will continue on April 21 with multiple sessions.
In Kiphire, the first phase of district-level training was held at the DC’s Conference Hall. Deputy Commissioner Temsuwati Longkumer, delivered the welcome address and emphasized the importance of accurate data collection and coordinated efforts among officials to ensure the successful execution of Census 2027.
Census 2027 in Nagaland will be conducted in two phases. Phase I, the House Listing and Housing Census (HLO), will take place from June 16 to June 30, 2026 as a self-enumeration period, followed by house-to-house fieldwork from July 1 to July 30, 2026. This phase will collect data on housing conditions, amenities and household assets, serving as the frame for Phase II.
Phase II, the Population Enumeration (PE), will be carried out in February 2027, with September 2026 reserved for snow-bound areas, and will include a five-day revisional round of self-enumeration.
Officials emphasized that the training is crucial for ensuring accuracy, efficiency and smooth execution of the census process, which remains one of the largest administrative exercises in the country.
