The Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to assess damage in States affected by unprecedented rainfall, floods and other disasters, commenced an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by flash floods and landslides across Nagaland during this year’s monsoon.
The team is led by Gaya Prasad, joint secretary (F-II), MHA (DM Division), and supported by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and deputy commissioner (DC) Chümoukedima, Polan John. On Tuesday, the team inspected several severely affected sites, including NH-29, Seitheke Basa, Sovima, and the hanging bridge connecting Seithekema and Chümoukedima.
Second group of IMCT simultaneously conducted inspections in various natural calamity affected areas of Dimapur district.
During the field visits, village councils and community representatives briefed the team about the challenges faced in the aftermath of the disasters.
At Sovima, the Sovima village landslide affected committee submitted a representation addressed to the NDMA and MHA, through NDMA joint secretary (policy & planning) S. The team would later travel to Kohima for a briefing with the chief secretary, chairman of the SEC Nagaland, and NSDMA officials at the chief secretary’s conference hall.
