In order to mitigate the huge connectivity deficit of eastern Nagaland and remote districts, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has in principle approved about 500 kms of more highways—North-South corridor in Eastern Nagaland between Mon and Avangkhu and East-West corridor connecting Tuensang, Noklak, Kiphire and Zunheboto to Dimapur.

According to a Raj Bhavan statement, the governor of Nagaland RN Ravi expressed gratitude to Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. Following the approval of these highways in principle, the NHIDCL has commenced preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR). Raj Bhavan stated that these highways would be the game changers for the people living in remote districts. The MoRTH has reportedly assured the governor of fast pace progress on all their road projects in Nagaland.

When contacted, governor Ravi told Nagaland Post that he had been meeting Union Minister Gadkari from time to time for infrastructure development, particularly the roads, in Nagaland.

Ravi said “My thrust is to ensure some significant infrastructure development in Nagaland by 2022, when the Country will celebrate 75th year of Independence.” He informed that after preparation of DPR of the new 500 kms highways by NHIDCL in next one to two months, the project was likely to commence by mid this year.
