Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, accompanied by his two deputy chief ministers Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen, is currently in New Delhi holding a series of high-level meetings with Union ministers and BJP leaders to seek support for the state’s financial recovery and rehabilitation efforts. Since arriving in the capital on February 21, the delegation has met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, and BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh.
During their meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Manipur leaders sought enhanced financial assistance to revive the state’s economy and ensure inclusive growth. Sitharaman assured them of the Centre’s full support in strengthening Manipur’s financial health. She also promised assistance for the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs), a pressing issue in the state. The chief minister expressed gratitude to the finance minister for her patient hearing and continued commitment to Manipur’s progress.
Earlier, the delegation met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who assured all possible assistance from his ministry. The chief minister requested the raising of a Territorial Army battalion specifically for Manipur, highlighting the state’s security concerns and the need for additional support.
The team also engaged with BJP National President Nitin Nabin at the party’s national office. Discussions focused on strengthening the state party unit and expediting efforts for the resettlement of IDPs. Nabin assured full backing from the party in these initiatives. Notably, Yumnam Khemchand was recently elected as the leader of the BJP legislature wing in Manipur on February 3, becoming the first chief minister chosen under Nabin’s leadership of the party.
In addition, the chief minister met BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh, further underlining the importance of coordination between the state and central leadership. These meetings reflect a concerted effort by Manipur’s leadership to secure both financial and organizational support from the Centre and the BJP for addressing the state’s economic challenges and humanitarian concerns.
Overall, the visit underscores the Centre’s assurance of assistance to Manipur in reviving its economy, rehabilitating displaced persons, and strengthening its security apparatus. The constructive engagements with Union ministers and BJP leaders signal a collaborative approach toward stabilizing the state and ensuring inclusive growth.
