Centre committed to early Naga political solution: Governor Yadav

Staff Reporter

DIMAPUR, NOV 2 (NPN): Five members of the Naga Youth Movement (NYM) met Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav at Lok Bhavan on Monday and apprised him of the organisation’s concerns over the delay in resolving the Naga political issue and implementation of the two agreements.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, NYM member Hiketo Naga said the meeting lasted around 20 to 30 minutes, during which the Governor acknowledged that he was well aware of the concerns raised by the organisation, particularly the issues surrounding implementation of the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position.
However, the Governor reportedly informed the delegation that he was not the appropriate authority to provide a response on the matter.
During the interaction, NYM members also enquired whether the memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had reached the concerned authorities. The Governor confirmed that the memorandum had been received by both the Prime Minister and the Home Ministry (MHA).
He further conveyed that a response could be expected in due course and expressed that the Government of India (GoI) was also in favour of an early solution to the Naga political issue.
Hiketo described the interaction as fruitful and thanked the Governor for sparing his time to meet the delegation and hear its concerns.
It may be recalled that NYM submitted its charter of demands to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister through the Governor on July 8, setting a three-month deadline for resolving the Naga political issue and ensuring implementation of the two agreements– Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position. The deadline expired on October 8, 2026.
Among its key demands, NYM had called for transparency in the political process and the unification of all Naga Political Groups (NPGs) on a single platform. It had also urged the Government of India to issue a clear and official clarification on its position regarding the two signed agreements– Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position.
The organisation further demanded that the Centre disclose the specific roadblocks impeding the implementation process, stating that the Naga people should be made aware of the reasons for the delay and the path towards a resolution.
It may also be recalled that after the October 8 deadline passed without any response from the Centre, NYM members sought a meeting with the Governor on October 13, 2026.
NYM expressed disappointment over Governor’s refusal to meet its delegation, stating that he had given no valid reason. It said he should resign if unwilling to hear or address the grievances of the Naga people.
