Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland Bhagyashree Banayat has C served show-cause notices on United Naga Democratic Party (UNDP) and Nagaland Congress (NC) for failing to contest elections in the past six years.
CEO Nagaland noted that the two parties have ceased to function as a political party for the purposes of the Section 29A.
Therefore, CEO said the Election Commission, in exercise of its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution of India and Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, proposed to delist the NUDP and NC from the list of registered parties.
However, before taking action as proposed above, CEO said the commission has decided to provide to the two parties an opportunity of making a representation/showing cause, if any, as to why the proposed action may not be taken.
Therefore, CEO has called upon UNDP and NC to make a written representation to the office of the chief electoral officer, Nagaland. It SAID representation, if any, should be duly accompanied by an affidavit from the president or general secretary of the parties, and all supporting documents on which the parties propose to rely, and should reach the CEO office latest by August 26, 2025.
CEO stated that the date of hearing for the parties had been scheduled on August 26, 2025 at 12noon before CEO Nagaland, office of the chief electoral officer, above AG Office, AG Colony, Kohima.
