Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, C.M. Chang formally unveiled the foundation stone for a Forest Range Office in Tening under Peren district on December 13.
According to a DIPR report, Chang, addressing the gathering, recalled that in the year 1982-83, when he was a civil officer posted in Tening, there was hardly any development. He also lamented about how the birds and wild animals were vanishing. “The land is fertile but people are not hard working”, he said. Chang appealed to all to cooperate with the government for more development in their area. The range forest of Tening was launched with Japanese aide. Projects with Germany and Korea are also in the pipeline, the minister said.
Advisor of Water Resource Development, Namri Nchang said that development will come and people have to utilize it to their benefit. He also cautioned against air and soil pollutants and called upon all to conserve nature. He also appealed to Church leaders to take initiatives to conserve their forests. Schemes for various development projects will come in the near future and an SDEO office will be inaugurated very shortly, he added.
Conservator of Forest (STC) Nagaland, Dr. Kenei highlighted the Japanese ICA project on “A Boon to Tribal Livelihood.” Dr. Kenei said that the land is blessed with nature and appealed to the people to conserve forests.
Divisional Forest Officer, Peren, Dr. Sentitula, said it was a red letter day for Tening and appealed to the people to join hands to conserve wildlife. Range Officer, Namsibo chaired the program.
