
To revive and impart cultural knowledge to the people especially the young generation of the Chang community, the Chang Union Dimapur (CUD) observed “Poanglüm festival”, meaning winter festival, at the residence of treasurer CUD, PWD residency colony, here on Tuesday.
Highlighting the significance of the Poanglüm festival, Dr. I.N. Somba said “Poanglüm” was considered as a festival of thanksgiving and sharing. He said it was on this occasion the bond of friendship between friends, relatives and different villages were strengthened by visiting one another.
The beginning day of the festival is proclaimed by Hongang clan. Poanglüm also marks peace treaty (Lamshok) and renewal of friendship between neighbouring villages.
Lamenting on the lack of resources, Nagaland Public Service Commissioner (NPSC) member, N.Lemba Chang encouraged the young generation to work hard with a positive attitude inorder to be achieve their goal while short speech was also delivered by retired STO, Tuensang Wongtochingmak who also briefed about “Poanglüm” festival. He also encouraged CUD to take care of Chang people in Dimapur and to develop unity amongst them.
To mark the celebration of the festival, the Chang traditional folk dances, songs and cultural games were presented.
Hundreds of people from the Chang community attended the celebration in their traditional attire.
