Changtongya citizens observe Tsüngremong

Citizens of Changtongya celebrated Tsüngremong, the harvest festival of Ao community in Kohima on August 3. 

A press release from Changtongya Senso Telongjem Kohima (CSTK) stated that the celebration organised by the CSTK was hosted by Imnatiba, advisor, Industries and Commerce and NIDC, Labour and Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, at his official residence.

Speaking on the occasion, Imnatiba called upon the villagers as well as the people of his constituency, to come together in unity and work confidently towards the progress of the economy. He also donated a vehicle – a Mahindra Bolero to the Changtongya Village Council (CVC) to serve as conveyance during their official works.  

American Baptist International Ministries, country co-coordinator for India, Rev Taku Longkumer urged for developing a broadminded outlook in one’s interaction with outside world as well as giving back to the society. Emphasising on the importance of villages in the Naga society, he also advocated their development though citizen’s initiative. Giving and going “back to the roots” will directly and indirectly help a village to develop in unanimity with others, while instilling a sense of belongingness in oneself, he added. 

Earlier, the programme chaired by CSKT president Imsensangba began with an invocation by pastor Kohima Ao Baptist Church, Rev A Chuba Jamir.

Presentations of Tsüngremong songs from Dimapur and Kohima units as well as elucidation of the meaning of the day by CVC tatar, Alemtozüng were some highlights of the event.  Benediction was offered by Toshi Imchen, pastor, Nagaland Christian Revival Church (Ao), Kohima. 

Among others, villagers residing in Kohima and Dimapur as well as members from CVC and other well-wishers attended the event.
