The Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Chekrovolü Swüro on her election as the president of the Nagaland Archery Association, marking a historic milestone as the first woman to hold the position.
Chekrovolü Swüro, a name synonymous with excellence in Indian archery, is one of Nagaland’s most celebrated athletes. She represented India at the London 2012 Olympic Games, becoming the second athlete from Nagaland to compete at the Olympics. Her distinguished career has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Arjuna Award and Nagaland’s highest sports honour, the Dr. T. Ao Award.
A consistent member of the Indian National Archery team, Swüro has brought laurels to the country through her performances at major international events such as the World Championships and the Asian Games. Notably, she was part of the Indian team that clinched the Gold Medal at the Archery World Cup in Shanghai in 2011.
Her election as president is seen as a significant step forward for sports leadership in the state, particularly in promoting the role of women in decision-making positions.
The NOA expressed confidence that her experience as an elite athlete will bring valuable insights to the development of archery in Nagaland.
“We believe her leadership will open new avenues for young archers and further reinforce Nagaland’s position on the national sporting map,” the NOA stated. The Association looks forward to working closely with Swüro to support the growth of archery and strengthen the broader sporting ecosystem in the state.
