
The second day of the Chengu (Great Barpet) Festival at Sukhai village, Zunheboto witnessed students going on a nature walk in the morning with professional birds and butterflies guides, Tshetsholo Naro and Angule Mayese.
According to Tizu Valley Biodiversity and Livelihood Network (TVBLN) media cell, Tavinto K. Sümi, in the first session chaired by Atheli K. Zhimomi, Tokaho Kinimi wildlife warden, Dimapur, Raj Kumar DFO, Zunheboto and David Angami, president, Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) spoke at the function where they stressed on the importance of Eco tourism through conservation.
Tokaho also lauded the people of Sukhai, Ghukhuyi and Kivikhu for their sacrifices and commitment.
In his short speech, Raj said Forest department will also be assisting in conserving biodiversity and in promoting Eco tourism. David Angami also spoke on the history of NTA and further requested the organizers and the people to help NTA reach out to the people in the area and work together in promoting tourism in the district.
A folk song dedicated to Chengu was presented by Hokiye Chochou & group and cultural exchange between Sukhai, Kivikhu and Ghukhuyi student unions.
In the second session, Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSB) executives and Foundation for Ecology Security (FES) conducted a workshop with the students while AirBnB conducted workshop with home stay owners.
Training and demonstration was performed by ATMA Zunheboto, LRD Zunheboto and pebble art exhibition by Iboli Zhimo. Free medical camp and free animal health camp was also conducted by ATMA.
The first ever Chengu Festival is being organised and hosted by TVBLN in collaboration with Sukhai, Ghukhuyi and Kivikhu student unions from January 7 to 9.
