KOHIMA, SEP 18 (NPN): A 28-year-old construction worker who sustained a gunshot injury at Chiechama village on September 16, 2026 remains in stable condition but under close medical observation at a private hospital in Kohima with doctors saying the next 48 hours would be crucial in determining whether complications, particularly infection, develop.
The victim, Langshe Lomou, son of late Timeng Lomou of Chendang Saddle under Tuensang district, was admitted to the hospital in a semi-conscious and shocked state after being shot in the back.
Doctors said he had suffered internal bleeding and that his condition was critical at the time of admission, requiring medical teams to stabilise his blood pressure. He was also given two units of blood.
According to doctors, the bullet injured the victim’s kidney and perforated the colon, while the stomach also sustained damage.
The stomach injury resulted in leakage of stool into the abdominal cavity, raising concerns about a possible infection.
The patient is therefore being kept under close observation.
Doctors said the next 48 hours would be important in assessing whether an infection develops and how the patient responds to treatment. His condition is currently stable, they added, while he continues to remain under medical observation.
Meanwhile, PRO Kohima police, Soriso, said the accused had been arrested by personnel of Chiephobozou police station, as the incident occurred within its jurisdiction.
The accused was subsequently produced before the court, remanded to judicial custody and is currently lodged at Kohima district jail.
Further, PRO informed that the bullet recovered from the victim had been retrieved and preserved as evidence. He said the case was under active investigation, and further necessary action would be taken based on its findings. PRO added that all relevant aspects of the case were being examined by the police.
CVC condemns: Chiechama Village Council (CVC) has strongly condemned the shooting, describing the alleged act as “barbaric and inhuman” and calling for justice for the injured construction worker.
According to the council, the incident occurred at around 11:40am on September 16 when Medochülie Zumvü (71) of Chiechama village, allegedly shot Lomou.
The council said Lomou had been working for the past three days at the construction site of a primary health centre in the village. The shooting allegedly took place after the accused objected to the workers carrying out work at the site.
In a statement, CVC chairman Neizolie Rüpreo and press secretary Kevineisa Metha condemned the incident and appreciated the police for swiftly taking the accused into custody. The council also stated that no village member should seek to bail the accused from police custody.
The council appealed to law-enforcement authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure justice for the victim. CVC chairman informed that the council was considering excommunicating the accused from the village for seven years, with a final decision expected in the coming days.
The council has expressed its prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured construction worker.
