Chief Secy launches eNaga website

‘Best minds’ from four core sectors to meet at the Summit
State chief secretary Pankaj Kumar launched the website-eNaga Summit 2015- in the conference hall of the chief secretary Tuesday as build up to the eNaga Summit 2015 to be held at the NBCC Conventional Hall on May 27 being organised by the department of Information Technology and Communication (IT&C) in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
As reported earlier, eNaga Summit 2015 aimed at bringing together the “best minds” across the country from four core sectors- government, academia, industry and entrepreneurs in order to build a foundation required for identifying existing gaps, incubate ideas and devise solutions to the specific needs of the north east region to help in the progress and prosperity of the nation.
Speaking at the launch, chief secretary Pankaj Kumar informed that the website was developed in the context of global digital revolution which would play a crucial role in helping to expand the services to other parts of the state.
He said till the 90s many thought that only the well to do section would get access to the new technology and thus, create a digital divide. However with costs coming down, today the poor section were also able to access the new technology and also mentioned that the IT department had also set up Common Services Centres in various parts of the state.
Pankaj cited the recently launched social security scheme by the prime minister and subsidy for LPG (through Aadhar) linked to personal bank accounts, online applications for NPSC exams and payment of sales tax as success stories of the digital revolution.  He mentioned that the state’s sales tax department had collected more Rs. 100 crore in 2014 through online payment. Pankaj expressed optimism that the forthcoming eNaga Summit 2015 would bring the government, industrialist academia and entrepreneurs together and will assess the potential for tomorrow on the services needed to be provided and the benefit by plugging into the system.
Commissioner of IT&C, K.D. Vizo in his brief address said the main feature of the e-Naga summit website included- separate feature for online registration for various categories of participants, feature for formation on the venue and programme details and feature for discussion and assistance. He was optimistic that the event would be meaningful for the youth and entrepreneurs.
IT to set up Low Cost Connectivity: Meanwhile interacting with Nagaland Post, Vizo who was in the department of Telecommunications, admitted that poor internet and mobile connectivity in the state was due the poor infrastructures. Vizo also disclosed that the state IT&C department was working to test three new wireless technologies for Low Cost Connectivity in three remote locations in Hunta under Mon, Pokhungri under Phek and Ralan under Wokha.
In this regard, he urged upon the Central Department of Electronics & Information Technology to include Nagaland in the plan for testing new technologies that would provide better internet connectivity in the State. Vizo also disclosed that the IT&C department was also working to set up the National Optical Fibre Network launched nationwide in 2011 to connect all rural villages with high speed internet connectivity.
