Childline and DDLSA workshop stresses on safety of children

DDLSA and CHILDLINE Dimapur organised a workshop on “Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 & Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act” for GBs and council chairs (CCs) under GB Union Sadar Dimapur and Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) on March 29 at DC’s conference hall Dimapur.

In a press release, CHILDLINE Nodal Dimapur, nodal coordinator Neiketulie Namdau stated that resource persons for the workshop were first class judicial magistrate Dimapur Boduve Peter Resu and centre coordinator CHILDLINE Dimapur Lozua Kape.

During the first session, Boduve Resu presented on the POCSO Act 2012 and various sections and provisions under the Act.

He stressed on the responsibility of every concerned adult towards safety of children in the society and added that the role of GBs and council chairmen as leaders of the community played a crucial role in ensuring that the rights of children are safeguarded.

During the second session, Lozua Kape gave a presentation on the roles and functions of CHILDLINE 1098 and made references on some case studies on child abuse intervened by CHILDLINE Dimapur.

She further presented on the ward/colony level child protection committees and highlighted on the roles, functions, responsibilities of the committee and objectives of the committees as well.

In her concluding remarks, collab director CHILDLINE Dimapur, K Ela stressed on the responsibility of every individual to be concerned and responsible citizens and to report every case on child abuse to the concerned authority.

She urged all to take the message from the workshop to everyone in their respective colonies and educate people at different level and that CHILDLINE looked forward to getting positive response and support from their respective colonies in its various initiatives for the protection of children in the days to come.
