Chopper lands successfully in Kiphire

Trail landing of helicopter was successfully undertaken at the newly cemented helipad here on Friday, which was witnessed by officials from the district administration, DBs, NGOs members and department officials. Helicopter service in Kiphire remained suspended for more than a month due to poor condition of helipad.
The initiative of cementing the helipad, which is being seen as one of the visible development works in recent years, was financed by Nagaland minister for power C.Kipili Sangtam. The work was supervised by Likhumse PS to minister and party members.
The department officials said chopper service could have been suspended for more days had the minister power not taken personal initiative. They said with Friday’s successful trail landing, the helicopter service would resume, adding it would help citizens avail better and quicker transport.
Department officials also during the period of suspension of chopper service, many patients who needed better treatment outside had to face a lot of troubles. As Kiphire is the farthest district of the state, the travellers require 10-12 hours to reach Dimapur by road while for a helicopter it takes only 45 minutes. Because of the quick transportation provided by helicopter, the citizens book tickets at least one month in advance even though chopper service is twice a week.
