Chuba Chang uncontested for 51 Noksen A/C by-poll

As the last date for filing of nomination for the 51 Noksen Assembly constituency (AC) by-election ended on Tuesday, only one candidate has so far filed nomination papers.

An official from the chief electoral officer’s (CEO) office Nagaland  confirmed to Nagaland Post that barring H. Chuba Chang from NDPP, no other candidate had filed the nomination papers.  Chuba is also the PDA’s consensus candidate for the by poll scheduled on April 17.

Additional chief election officer said scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on Wednesday and after the last date of withdrawal, the official result will be announced.

When contacted, opposition NPF secretary general Achumbemo Kikon informed that his party had decided not to field any candidate and refused to cite any reason.

Earlier, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee announced that it would not field any candidate, citing “bitter experience” during the Pungro-Kiphire AC by-poll.

Training cancelled: The deputy commissioner (DC) and district election officer (DEO) Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant, has notified that the training of polling personnel scheduled for March 31, 2021 and April 1, 2021 in connection with conduct of by-election to the 51 Noksen assembly constituency has been cancelled.
