Chuchuyimlang Village Council (CVC) and the Tourism Organizing Committee have announced that the Moatsü festival will be celebrated at Chuchuyimlang village on May 1, 2026.
Moatsü, one of the major festivals of the Ao Naga community, is observed annually in May after the completion of sowing. Traditionally dedicated to honouring the Gods of nature for a bountiful harvest, the spring festival is marked by folk songs, dances, feasting, and spirited gatherings, embodying joy, unity, and thanksgiving.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday evening, Chuchuyimlang Village Council chairman Aosanen Pongen said the festival continues to focus on community bonding, renewing ancestral friendships and diplomatic ties through the age-old tradition of “Ancha”, which involves inviting neighbouring villages and tribes beyond the Ao community.
This year’s celebration will be held at the Anü Mai amphitheatre with deputy chief minister Y. Patton as guest of honour and Abu Metha, advisor to Chief Minister, as special guest.
The programme will feature performances by the Pongching cultural troupe (Phom tribe) and Chakpa cultural troupe (Chang tribe), with invitations extended to Phom, Chang, Sangtam, and Konyak tribes. On being queried about government support, the chairman clarified that no financial assistance had been received to date, and the festival was being managed from community resources.
