DIMAPUR: The monthly meeting of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Chumoukedima, was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on September 10, under the chairmanship of advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs & Chairman, DPDB Chumoukedima, Zhaleo Rio. Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Co-operation, Jacob Zhimomi, also attended the meeting.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting began with a review of the minutes of the previous DPDB meeting. Deputy Commissioner Polan John, welcomed new members and apprised the board on the progress of the Census and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises.
Addressing the members, advisor Zhaleo Rio stressed the importance of strict attendance by officers and urged them to sensitise citizens about government schemes and funds allocated to the district.
He called upon officials to provide detailed information on departmental activities and highlighted ongoing efforts to establish new district offices in Chumoukedima and Niuland.
On solid waste management, Rio emphasised strict compliance with waste segregation practices and urged coordination among the district administration, Chumoukedima Town Council and the public. He informed that Sewage Treatment Plants and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) were being constructed to address waste issues and promote reuse.
Minister Jacob Zhimomi reminded departments of their responsibility to appraise elected representatives about development activities.
He stressed adherence to prescribed guidelines, accountability, and transparency, while calling for close coordination between Chumoukedima and Niuland.
The board also considered applications for society registration, recommending proposals for Empowerment Hub for Disability, Zutovi Village and Chumoukedima District Pensioners Association, Ward-10.
Another agenda discussed was the proposal for road widening and drainage construction along NH-29 from 7th Mile Model Village to Seithekema C to mitigate flooding. The proposal was endorsed to the PWD Department for necessary action. PowerPoint presentations were delivered on solid waste management by ADC Chumoukedima, T. Lemlila Sangtam, and ADC Medziphema, P. James Swu; on Postal Life Insurance and GDS Recruitment 2026 by Imti, Inspector, Department of Posts; and on the revised Dr. Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme and Reform Utsav by SDO (C), Chumoukedima, Shreyansee Jain.
