Church plays a vital role in reforming society: Vikheho

Minister for Road and Bridges (R&B) Y. Vikheho Swu asserted that Church is an important institution to reform the society and asked the Church leaders to contribute in reforming the society.
Speaking at the first day of the five-day “Cultural Fest” organized by Thilixü Baptist Akukuhou, Wednesday at the Church premises, Vikheho appreciated the efforts of the organizers to restore and strengthen ones culture and identity.
Highlighting the need to educate the younger generation of one’s culture and traditions, he urged the Churches to play a vital role in imparting cultural values and traditions in the youth.
Pointing out that an individual’s identity is determined by one’s culture Vikheho said it was imperative to learn, maintain and restore the culture.
On economic development, the minister recalled the hardworking forefathers who were involved in agriculture as their main livelihood and said that “we” should emulate their work culture.
 Also cautioning the youth on latest technologies, Vikheho lamented that some sections of the society are misusing it and appealed the youth to be cautious and learn the advantages and disadvantages of technology.
Hundreds of people were enthralled with folk dance, folk songs and traditional fire making displaying the rich culture of Sumi community. 
The cultural fest which will culminate on July 5 will witness competitions like bamboo climbing, top spinning, spear kicking, cock fighting etc.
