
Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), DAC & FW, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Medziphema organized three on-campus training programmes for ex-trainees, youths and entreprenuers.
A press release by CIH Medziphema stated that training was on organic farming, nursery management and refreshers course on post harvest management of horticulture crops. Refresher course on post harvest management of horticulture crops was conducted on January 12, 13 and 15. Trainees were given hands on practical demonstration on extraction of pineapple and banana fibre, preparation of wild apple candy etc, and marketing with respect to horticultural crops in NE region. Altogether 12 participants attended the 3-day refreshers course. Two-day training on organic farming was conducted on January 14 and 15 where participants were provided training on concept and principles of organic farming etc and organic value chain in horticulture. Field visit to institutes’ demonstration farm and demonstration and use of vermicompost was also conducted. Participants were farmers, educated unemployed youths and FPCs from Dimapur and Bungsang village. A total of 20 participants attended the training programme.
Training on nursery management of horticulture was conducted on January 19 and 20 for famers, educated unemployed youths and participants from Organicflora FPC Dimapur.
The training topic comprised of introduction and classification of nursery, layout and physical resources of nursery etc and guidelines for recognition of horticultural nurseries.
The institute also conducted field visit to the institute’s nursery unit and provided practical demonstrations on various propagation techniques in horticulture crops. Altogether 27 participants attended the training programme on nursery management. Technical officers of the institute delivered the training through powerpoint presentation.
Dr. N.K Palte, addl. commissioner DAC&FW & director in-charge CIH, during the course of trainings also monitored each programme and also interacted with the participants through video conferencing.
