
Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), DAC & FW, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, Medziphema, Nagaland, conducted two days training on “pineapple and banana fibre extraction” on February 2 and 3 at its campus for participants from Meghalaya and Assam.
A press release by CIH stated that the training was organised to promote sustainable material that was close to nature for better life of future generations.
Detailed training on cultivation, extraction and processing of pineapple and banana fibres and hands on practical demonstration were delivered by resource persons post harvest technologist, Vinika K Aomi and senior technical assistant, Mhasizotuo, while marketing specialist, Prabin Das, took classes on marketing with respect to prospects and avenues of fibre marketing.
Meanwhile, additional commissioner, Horticulture (DAC&FW) and Director CIH, Dr. NK Patle welcomed the participants and encouraged trainees to learn in-depth and understand benefits of fibre extraction from eco-friendly and sustainable sources to create improved quality products and to increase employment opportunities in the rural population.
The director also assured participants that CIH would extend technical help to any participants who were willing to work hard and start their own venture in fibre processing.
