Two-day farmers interface meet was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Nagaland on October 6 and 7, at its campus in Medziphema, graced by secretary horticulture, Alan Gonmei as chief guest. During the inaugural programme, chief guest in his speech stressed the importance of imparting employable skills in horticulture which would help in generating employment opportunities in the horticulture sector.
Earlier, CIH director Dr. Lallan Ram, in his welcome address presented the progress and achievements of the Institute over the years, keynote address was presented by CIH chief consultant Dr. N K Mohan and briefed remarked were delivered by ICAR Nagaland joint director Dr. D J Rajkhowa, and Dr. N K Patle, Dy. Commissioner (Hort.), DAC&FW, Ministry of Agriculture & FW, New Delhi. An exhibition programme was also organized where thirteen exhibitors from different parts of North East exhibited their activities in horticulture.
Success stories by farmers, entrepreneurs and trainees also were shared. Awards were distributed for the best demonstration plot and best accredited nursery.
Certificates of skill development course on floriculture and nursery accreditation were distributed during the inaugural programme. NEZCC Dimapur sponsored two cultural troops and presented two cultural items during the programme.
Interactive session with the farmers was held on October 7, where representatives of farmer groups and government departments from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim & Tripura participated in the meet. Dr. N K Patle, deputy commissioner (Hort.), DAC&FW, director CIH, Dr. Lallan Ram & Dr. N K Mohan, chief consultant CIH addressed the queries and issues raised during the farmers meet.
