A three-day farmers’ training on “Doubling farmer’s income through holistic approach in cultivation of horticulture crops” was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), DAC & FW, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GOI, Medziphema, in collaboration with ICAR, KVK, Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya from September 25 to 27 at ICAR research complex for NEH Region, Barapani, Meghalaya.
A press release from director CIH Nagaland stated that the training was organized so as to impart technical knowledge on cultivation practices of various horticulture crops and also create awareness on importance of good agricultural practices for enhanced productivity and sustainable income. The three days training program covered various topics on mushroom production, protected cultivation, integrated fish & horticulture farming, home scale preservation and processing of ‘chow-chow’, bee keeping for enhanced crop yield and income, importance of soil testing and soil health card, FPO and SHG formation, etc.
The training topics were selected according to needs of the farmers of the region, with field visit to research farms being also organized. The resource persons were scientist and subject matter specialist from ICAR, KVK, Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya. Altogether, 150 farmers from three different villages of Ri bhoi district participated in the training program.
