A disturbing incident has emerged from Kulti in West Burdwan, where a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan, Ramakant Vishwakarma, was arrested for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old girl. The incident reportedly occurred when the minor was picking mangoes near the CISF camp in Shitalpur. It was here that Vishwakarma allegedly lured her into his quarters with promises of ripe mangoes.
Following the incident, the terrified girl returned home and informed her grandmother about the molestation. This prompted the family to approach the jawan’s quarters; however, by the time they arrived, Vishwakarma had fled, leaving his quarters locked. The family then filed a complaint at the Kulti police station. The news quickly spread, causing widespread tension in the area, leading to roadblocks and protests by local residents including leaders from the Trinamool Congress.
The police acted swiftly, managing to arrest Ramakant Vishwakarma later that night. He is now facing serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. A senior officer from the West Burdwan police confirmed that an application would be filed to seek further custody of the accused for thorough investigation and evidence collection. The incident has elicited strong reactions from political figures, who condemned the behavior of a member of the central force during a critical period leading up to assembly elections in West Bengal.
