Various organisations from Kohima have urged the citizens to demand the sale of goods at a price fixed by KMC as a matter of right.
A joint press release by Kohima Municipal Council, district administration Kohima, district executive force (DEF), Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP), Angami Youth Organisation (AYO and Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) on Wednesday, stated that this was discussed at the meeting held on August 5 at KMC office.
While being mindful of total lockdown and brunt of common man due to price rise, and with KMC revising the price of goods (retail), the associations requested the business community and the public to adhere to it. KMC assured of their efforts in the service of the public and urged the citizens to demand the sale of goods at the price fixed by KMC.
On receipt of information that certain parties were supplying goods wholesale at a higher rate than the price fixed for retail, the release stated that KMC field staff led by the chief inspector K Pienyu apprehended six persons on Wednesday with vegetables from Murgi Pati Dimapur, intended for sale as “local” in Kohima at a rate higher than the price fixed for retail.
It stated that the persons involved were let off with an undertaking not to repeat such practice and that they would refrain from importing any goods whose price may violate prices fixed for Kohima. Goods seized will be handed over to charity and a receipt of the same shall be obtained. While welfare of citizens remains supreme, the release also issued warning to those inclined to profiteering at other’s expense to refrain from such.
KMC clarifies: Kohima Municipal Council has clarified that the retail rate of local tomato shall be Rs. 60/- per kg not as published earlier.
