State police department has informed that the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs has instituted a helpline number 1930 to enable the public to report financial frauds and facilitate prompt freezing of fraudsters’ account.
In a press release, Nagaland police PRO informed that if citizens report early to helpline number 1930, the chances of recovering the lost amount were high. Till date, PRO said a total of 241 complaints have been reported to 1930.
As per the records, 74 complaints have been registered in the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) i.e on www.cybercrime.gov.in, which shows that the complainants were not completing the process of registering complaint.
PRO has therefore reminded that upon calling 1930, citizens would get an SMS link of NCRP portal on their registered phone number. If the complainant does not register their complaint in the NCRP portal within 24 hours, PRO said their complaint would not be registered in NCRP.
The registration of complaints on NCRP portal enables the police department to take further legal action in the matter and facilitates the process of refunding the amounts to the victim.
However, PRO said it has been noticed that public/victims were reluctant to come forward for registering of FIR.
Therefore, police have requested the public/victims to cooperate with the investigating agency to register cases and investigate cases.
For any financial fraud, citizens can call 1930 to register their complaints and for any other cybercrimes, citizens can log into www.cybercrime.gov.in to register their complaint.
