Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) has warned that the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that was finally passed in Lok Sabha on Tuesday amidst bedlam across the North-eastern States would create trust deficit between people of the region and the NDA government, which had entered into peace talks with various organisations and initiated Act East policy.
The forum said the Bill favoured refugees in granting them citizenship at the expense of national security, besides paving the way for the North-eastern States, which were already plagued by influx of illegal immigrants, to become a haven for foreigners.
Mentioning that it was painful that sentiments of the affected people of the Northeast were totally ignored, NPRAAF regretted that Parliament, “which is the temple of democracy”, had crushed the people’s voice and murdered democracy.
The Bill would hurt integrity and security of diverse India, it added.
