Civic polls: ENPO leaves matter to respective tribes

Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has resolved that the matter of holding Municipal/Town Councils polls in ENPO areas would be left to the understanding and responsibility of the respective tribes– Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam and Yimchunger.
ENPO media cell in a press note informed that the resolution was made at an emergency consultation meeting held on January 4, 2017 at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur. The house also took note of the written clarification received from the state government and resolved that it would not be held responsible in any manner in the event of infringement upon Article 371(A) by holding the civic body election with 33% reservation for women under Nagaland Municipal (Third Amendment) Act 2016 now and in the future.
It may be mentioned that the Naga Hoho executive council had also resolved to leave the matter to the concerned tribe hohos and the people in their respective jurisdiction to decide what was best for the people.
