Clean Doyang Phase-II meet in Wokha

DIMAPUR

A coordination meeting for the upcoming Clean Doyang Mission Phase-II was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha, on August 22, under the chairmanship of Vineet Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Wokha.
It may be noted that after Nagaland Post highlighted the persistent pollution in the Doyang reservoir, particularly the accumulation of plastic waste and floating debris, Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar, has announced the launch of the second phase of the “Clean Doyang Mission.”
According to DIPR report, the meeting brought together officials from various government departments and representatives from NGOs to deliberate on strategies, suggestions, and operational plans for the second phase of the mission. A review of Clean Doyang Mission Phase-I, conducted in June 2024, was also presented, highlighting key challenges such as waste accumulation across river and dam areas.
Recent surveys revealed that waste has spread across a wider stretch of the river this year, affecting both banks and posing difficulties in deploying heavy machinery due to siltation. The hot and humid conditions further limit daytime operations.
Key challenges identified included: Inaccessible zones with extensive waste spread; unstable ground conditions for machinery due to siltation and weather constraints affecting work hours.
To address these, several suggestions were put forward: Construction of barricades to prevent floating debris buildup; use of Trash Skimmers for surface waste removal and exploration of long-term solutions for sustained cleanliness.
Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar encouraged all stakeholders to contribute ideas and conduct site visits to assess feasibility of proposed measures. He also urged NGOs and departments to be ready to mobilize volunteers when needed, emphasizing the importance of collective effort and community involvement.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to make Clean Doyang Mission Phase-II more effective, inclusive, and sustainable.
