
Clean election movement, an initiative of the Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC), was launched in Phek Tuensang and Mon on the theme “my vote, my future” on August 6. The movement was launched to safeguard and nurture democracy through educating voters about issues of corruption and inviting all to refuse to participate in bribery or violence.
Phek: Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) was launched Friday under the theme, “my vote, my future” at Pfütsero Town Centre under Phek district on August 6.
In a press release, CCEM informed that the campaign declared open by CBCC executive secretary, Rev. Khrotso Mero would continue to “make a movement for clean election in the coming years”.
At the event, speeches were delivered by Chakhesang Public Organization president, Mikha Kenye; additional deputy commissioner Pfütsero, Japheth Woch; Chakhesang Christian Revival Council of Churches president, Vesatso Tetseo and Chakhesang Mothers Association president, Zhonelü Tunyi.
The event chaired by CCEM convener, Rev. Dr. Kuzhopoyo Tunyi began with a prayer by Immanuel Baptist Church, Pfütsero Pastor Rev. Vepocü Epao and concluded with a benediction by Pfütsero Town Baptist Church Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Neingupe Chiero. The event was attended by hundreds of leaders from churches, public, colony and well-wishers.
Tuensang: Clean election movement was launched at Tuensang by Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen at CBLT conference hall, Tuensang.
The launching programme was attended by DC & DEO, Kumar Ramnikant; president CKS, Nungsanglemba; DAEO Tuensang, Renben Mozhui; ES CBLT, Rev. Achu Chang; President TTBPU, representatives of GBs & pastors and students of Baptist Thangyen Higher Secondary School, Tuensang.
Speaking at the programme, Kumar Ramnikant stated that a clean electoral roll was the base of the clean election processes.
“If we manipulate our vote then we are manipulating our rights and selling our identity and the whole process starts there on”, he said. He said that being a democratic set up, leaders are chosen by the people and that there should be no proxy or bogus voters, and e-roll must be clean.
Ramnikant sought for the support of everyone to achieve a clean electoral roll and urged that the public stop the habit of complaining about leaders not bringing changes and development, rather they should elect the right leaders.
President CKS Nungsang Lemba said that the citizens of the state have a habit of making false electoral rolls. He encouraged the people to help authorities in cleaning the e-roll so that good leaders can be elected. District assistant election officer, Tuensang, Renben Mozui encouraged all to identify enrolling genuine voters, strike out absentee voters, to delete the demographically same entries and to delete the inter district and inter constituency multiple entries of the voters.
He also requested persons with disabilities (PwDs) to be identified and get them enrolled.
In his keynote address, ES CBLT, Rev Achu said that the struggles faced today are one’s own doing and urged the gathering to be instruments of change.
Mon: In Mon, the clean election movement programme was hoisted by KBBB along with the Apex NGOs, head of the institutions and sister Churches of Mon. During the programme, keynote address was delivered by CEC co-convenor Nyamto Wangsha.
ADC Mon, SP. Mon, presidents from KU, KNSK and KSU also delivered speeches on clean voters’ rolls, adopting the system practice in Mizoram state and to hold joint consultative meeting with different tribal hohos along with NBCC. They also emphasised on putting an end to selling of votes and on good governance.
Meanwhile, special music was presented by the Gorkha Baptist Church youth and local artiste David.
Earlier, ES Rev. Chemyuh encouraged all to reform wrong practices and to reach out to every citizens through the movement.
