‘Clean India programme’ launched

Commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) launched the month long “Clean India programme”, on October 1 at Kohima local ground.

According to a DIPR report, speaking at the launching programme, secretary, youth resources & sports, Wezope Kenye said that the Clean India programme was planned under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebration with a view to mobilise public to participate voluntarily in the nationwide drive of waste collection and disposal.

He stated that Clean India was not just a programme but reflected the genuine concerns of common man and their resolve to address the issue, therefore, he said, that ensuring cleanliness in the country was the responsibility of all the citizens.

Wezope informed that the objective of Clean India was to organise activities to clean waste mainly, the single use of plastic which would be organised in all 12 districts.

He added that the programme would cover 6 lakh villages of 744 districts across the country from October 1-31. 

He also informed that the programme would focus on collection drives and door to door campaign, village beautification, maintenance and beautification drives for historical monuments and heritage sites, community centres, etc.

Meanwhile, a pledge for clean India was administered by director-in-charge NKYS, John Makhabo.

Around 50 volunteers from NYKS, NSS and Red Cross Society (RCS) Kohima participated in cleaning the vicinity of local ground Kohima.

Clean India campaign committee constituted

Department of Youth Resources & Spots has informed that in commemoration of AKAM and to organise Clean India Campaign from October 1 to 31, the state government has constituted a state level committee and district level committee for implementation of the programme.

The state level committee has been constituted with secretary, youth resources and sports as chairperson, state director, NYKS as member secretary and representative from PHED, urban development, rural development, school education, forest, environment & climate change, NHAI, Banking Sector, and NSS as members.

Meanwhile, the district level committee is constituted with DC as chairperson, district youth officer, NYKS as member secretary and district representative from PHED, urban development, rural development, school education, forest, environment & climate change, NHA, banking sector and NSS as members.
