Cleanliness is not a one-day affair but an everyday obligation which should start with each individual, said Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Kesonyü Yhome, while speaking at a cleanliness drive organised by the Diphupar Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) here on Thursday.
Emphasising on the need to a more critically practical approach in tackling the garbage menace in Dimapur, Kesonyü said, “Cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene starts right from a person’s kitchen and added that maintaining a toilet defines their personality.”
The DC started his speech by quoting from the famous poem “The Brook” by English poet Alfred Lord Tennyson where a person’s legacy would outlive his bodily existence. He emphasized on the importance of leaving behind a noteworthy legacy.
Kesonyü exhorted the gathering which comprised mostly of students on the universal applicability and association of honesty and good citizens which goes hand in hand.
Expressing regret over the unmistakable trend of neglecting one’s environment in search of wealth, materialistic gain and personal wellbeing, Kesonyü drew the line that greed, lawlessness, dishonesty and riot are not healthy for the society. He said one should build their foundation on honesty which in turn would make them good citizens and ultimately produce a more conducive and liveable environment.
In his brief speech, Kesonyü made it clear to the students community that one could bring change only when they think globally and act locally.
