Climate Smart Agriculture training conducted in Medziphema

A three-day training program on “capacity building of extension workers on climate smart agriculture” organised by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) for ATMA functionaries culminated on September 12 at SAMETI, Medziphema.

A press release by SAMETI stated that the training was aimed at sensitising the participants on the pertinent issues of climate change and its effects on farming with special reference to Nagaland.

The release said that the training also covered detailed participatory lectures on how to prepare action plans and utilise natural resources as part of strategies for Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA).

Resource persons for the training program were director SAMETI and principal IETC, Dr. I. Amenla, joint director, department of agriculture, Dr. D.K. Chetri and  head department of agronomy, NU: SASRD, professor Dr. Tongpang Longkumer.

A practical exercise on preparation of district wise action plan on CSA/way forward was conducted after the participatory lectures. The valedictory function was chaired by DPD SAMETI, Sentinaro Longchar, while feedback on the training was given by DPD Wokha, Yanglen Jami and DPD Mokokchung, Rongsennungla Imchen.

In a valedictory address, Dr. I. Amenla, reiterated the importance of starting a CSA momentum in the districts by applying the five important strategies- mitigation, food security, sustainability, sustainable production and adoption.

She urged the trainees to take the learning experience from the training and implement it at the districts with sincerity. Dr. Amenla also encouraged the participants to proactively contribute to India’s mission of reducing emissions by 30-35% by 2030, as stakeholders of the CSA.

Functionaries from all districts of the state participated in the training which concluded with distribution of certificates by lecturer IETC & in-charge, bio-control lab, Dr. Beremjungla and vote of thanks by DPD SAMETI, Tiajungla Longchar.
