Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang Wednesday asked schools and colleges to start skilling the students, along with academic activities, by tying up with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
He said this while speaking as chief guest at the golden jubilee of Kohima Science College Students’ Union (KSCSU) celebrated with the theme “valuing learning, learning values” at the college premises.
In this regard, the chief minister has assured to extend support in carrying forward the mission of skill development in the state.
On the occasion, Zeliang also lauded KSC of being the second college in Northeast to be accredited A-grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2011.
He urged the college faculty members to work harder in retaining the A-Grade, where NAAC would be carrying out the second round of assessment during the current year.
Congratulating the college for being conferred autonomous college status by UGC in 2014, Zeliang said if KSC continue to improve, then autonomous status could be the stepping-stone in becoming a science university.
Pointing out that 10 members of Nagaland Legislative Assembly are alumni of KSC, Zeliang said the college has presented itself that government-run institution could before better than private institutions and could even achieve a degree of excellence.
He also complimented KSCSU for being “very disciplined and responsible” students’ union.
Chief minister also reminded the college authorities and students community to maintain the mission statement of the college, such as- multi dimensional growth of students, equipping with reflective and analytical thinking, preparing for responsible citizenship and becoming agents of social change.
The chief minister also released the jubilee trust.
Earlier, the gathering was enthralled by a special performances by students “how majestic is your name” and “open their eyes” by Impochang Pongen.
Delivering welcome address, KSC principal, Dr. I Anungla Aier announced that the college would be introducing Master of Science (MSc) programme in six disciplines- Physics, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Geology and Anthropology from July this year.
“Odyssey” was released by parliamentary higher and technical education, Deo Nukhu.
Alumni who spoke on the occasion included- parliamentary Secretary for agriculture, Dr. Benjongliba Aier, general secretary alumni association, Avelu Rhakho and Dr. N R Newmai.
NSF president, Subenthung Kithan, ANCSU president, Zhoku Thuluo and JSU president, Rokophrezo Rino conveyed greetings to the KSCSU in attaining the milestone.
The commemorative programme was followed by jubilee feast, carnival and concert.
