State chief minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, virtually laid the foundation stones and launched nine Lighthouse School Complexes (LSCs) at Chief Minister’s Residential Complex in Kohima on Wednesday. It may be mentioned that chief minister on December 1, 2024 had laid the foundation stones of seven others LSCs in the state.
LSCs are envisioned as model schools with all necessary facilities required to function as hubs of academic excellence that support neighbouring spoke schools. Under the NECTAR project, one LSC each will be developed in 16 districts of Nagaland.
Speaking at the launching programme, Dr. Rio expressed lauded the progress of the Lighthouse School Complexes (LSCs) under the Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse (NECTAR), saying the education sector was undergoing significant reforms in the State, reports DIPR.
Highlighting the importance of education, Dr. Rio said education plays vital role in shaping the future of the youth in the state. He commended the school education department and NECTAR project for their innovative work, which aims to transform classrooms and teaching methods.
The chief minister thanked the Ministry of Education and the funding partners for their continued support and partnership.
Dr. Rio emphasised on the importance of primary schools which laid the foundation of education for students.
He expressed hope that with the new initiatives the students from the state could perform and compete with others from within and outside the State.
At the programme, principal director school education, Shashank Pratap Singh, highlighted various activities and projects undertaken under the NECTAR including the SMILE App and the training and professional strengthening of employees under the department.
The foundation stones of the LSCs were virtually laid by chief minister: GHSS Medziphema Town; GHSS Phek Town; GHS Sitimi Town; GHSS Satakha; GHS Chessore; GHS Noklak Village; Bautung GHSS Longleng; N.I. Jamir GHSS, Mokokchung and GHSS Dimapur.
Currently, the foundational works for all sixteen LSCs are being laid and the NECTAR engineering team is closely monitoring the progress.
The construction works are by being carried out with strict adherence to the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Standards to avoid potential adverse project impacts while promoting sustainable development. The total cost for the construction of the 16 LSCs has been estimated at Rs. 198.57 crore.
