Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday launched corporate social responsibility (CSR) project for Nagaland under the initiatives of Boeing India and Doctors For You (DFY).
The CSR initiatives include setting up of model labour rooms (MLR) at six community health centres (CHCs) and primary health centres (PHCs) and medical equipment and other logistics of MLR, besides ambulance, digital x-ray and ultrasound machine to Botsa PHC. Speaking on the occasion, Rio said the initiatives taken up by DFY across the country and its presence in over 300 districts of 26 states, including Nagaland, by means of contributing to public health infrastructure development, disaster management, risk reduction, hospital infrastructure development and capacity building were laudatory.
Through the partnership with DFY, he hoped that quality healthcare, low cost and free basic healthcare services, healthcare education and training, doorstep access to cutting-edge diagnostics and treatment services would be ensured.
“Working together, we can ensure the achievement of these goals, making Nagaland a model for other States in the country,” he remarked.
He said the launch of CSR projects was another milestone towards ensuring improved quality of healthcare, especially in maternal and child healthcare services through the MLR project.
Under the initiative, six CHCs and PHCs – Pungro CHC in Kiphire, Angpang PHC in Mon, Tamlu CHC in Longleng, Tuli CHC in Mokokchung, Aghunato CHC in Zunheboto and Botsa PHC in Kohima – would be initially taken up for piloting.
The chief minister lauded Boeing India for supporting the State through partnership with DFY in providing much-needed resources for strengthening public healthcare system in the State.
He thanked the two bodies on behalf of the people of Nagaland and hoped that the collaboration between the stakeholders would continue to grow.
He claimed that Nagaland’s health infrastructure had witnessed tremendous growth since the State was created in 1963.
Currently, Rio disclosed that there were 771 public health facilities in the State, including 11 district hospitals, two TB&CDH, one State Mental Health Institute (SMHI), 35 CHCs, 42 PHCs, one sub-health centre and 577 sub-centres.
He claimed that improvement of public healthcare was the cornerstone of his government’s policy, with special focus on maternal and child health, education and access to primary medical services for all.
Delivering the keynote address, DFY president Dr Rajat Jain hoped that the projects would greatly benefit the State in strengthening its public healthcare and other healthcare programmes implemented by various agencies as per needs identified by the government.
He disclosed that DFY would be taking up more infrastructural development activities in the State and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to strengthen public healthcare services.
During the programme a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also inked between the State government and DFY to further strengthen the public health system in the State.
