CNCCI, 9 DCCs postpone proposed indefinite voluntary shutter down

The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) along with nine district chambers of commerce (DCCs) has postponed the proposed indefinite voluntary shutter down originally scheduled from April 24 by two weeks.

This followed a high-level meeting with the government by representatives of the nine DCCs led by CNCCI where the government acknowledged the concerns raised by the trade bodies and sought two weeks to address the matter.

The CNCCI and nine DCCs had earlier proposed an indefinite voluntary shutter down of business establishments due to continued government apathy and lack of response to their long-standing demand for nominee representation in the urban local bodies (ULBs).

In response to the voluntary shutter down, the state government on the directive of chief minister Dr Neiphiu Rio extended an invitation for a high-level meeting.

During the deliberation, the CNCCI and the DCCs reiterated that their demand for nominee representation in the ULBs was non-negotiable, as it was essential to protect the interests of the business community and consumers alike.

The trade bodies hoped that the state government would act responsibly and resolve the issue within the stipulated timeframe. Meanwhile, the CNCCI has directed all 17 district presidents and executive members to attend the executive council meeting at CNCCI headquarters, Dimapur, on April 25 without fail. This was stated in a CNCCI press release.
