Expressing serious concern over the lack of maintenance of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at ATM booths across Nagaland, Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) Friday accused banks of not being serious on the COVID-19 pandemic. CNCCI through its chairman Dr. Khekugha Muru and general secretary Dr. Seyievilie Mor claimed that most ATMs appeared to be out of order- with no doors, no power backup and most operating without cash. CNCC also said ATM booths were defaced with stains from pan masala spits, urine stains and dirty with zero hygiene standards.
CNCCI has asked banks to maintain basic requirements such as- sanitizers, regular cleaning of ATMs with disinfectants, ensure COVID-appropriate behaviour among the customers and ensure one customer at a time inside the ATM booths. It also asked the banks to keep sufficient cash so the customers did not roam around the town looking for cash loaded ATMs.
It also reminded banks that customers were charged for the service and should be treated accordingly.
CNCCI cautioned that it would pursue appropriate legal action if immediate steps were not taken within three days.
Meanwhile, the chamber has also appealed to the public to practise civic sense and maintain social distancing and avoid over crowding. It reminded the customers to strictly follow one person at a time rule inside ATM.
