CNTC lauds CoRRP’s demand on job quota

DIMAPUR, JUN 1 (NPN)

Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) in a press statement, has appreciated the 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) including the five apex tribe bodies for bringing up the issue of the 48-year-old reservation policy with the state government and raising public awareness of the policy which has been plagued by many shortcomings.
CNTC cited the history of indefinite reservation policy over which numerous review committees in the past had not consulted the non-backward tribes.
It said this has only ensured addition of more tribes and more percentages over and above the initial percentage of 25% reservation.
CNTC maintained that the policy had been reduced to a mere tool of entitlement for the creamy layers among some tribes which are classified as backward tribes.
It pointed out that the state government had remained oblivious to the plight of the non-backward tribes in the past by ignoring numerous memorandums submitted by the student bodies of five tribes who had demanded comprehensive review of the reservation policy.
Central Nagaland Tribes Council said the present core demand of the CoRRP to either scrap the reservation policy or maintain the balance of unreserved quota exclusively for five tribes was justified in the light of neglect and damage done to the policy by successive governments and policy makers.
Central Nagaland Tribes Council reiterated its solidarity with the CoRRP mandated by the five apex tribe bodies to adopt different forms of agitation in order to let the state government undertake course correction and ensure that justice was done especially to the younger generations.
